The aim of this project is to design and evaluate an LED-based photoacoustic system. In this project, the system was evaluated on a tissue-equivalent phantom. This study evaluates the feasibility of using this imaging method for use in brain surgery. Depicting the margins of glioma tumors for maximum tumor removal, which has an appearance similar to normal brain tissue, is one of the challenges of brain surgery. Given the ability of the photoacoustic method to visualize the vessels at the tumor margins, it is possible to visualize the tumor margins during glioma surgery for maximum safe tumor removal.
